Puppy Classes - 1st week

Ailbe started his puppy classes at Petsmart last week.  Since the class was too small we all got moved to the Friday class.

We started our basic command work.  Doing a sit command with Ailbe isn't an issue.  He does pretty good with that command.  The other command they taught is the "Focus" command.. You can use any word to use to cue them for the command.  Tangling a treat to the side and then having them look at you is really hard for Ailbe.  He loves food and gets fixed on it instead of me .. My cue word is "look" and he knows what it means, but he's stubborn on doing it.

The treats are giving him loose stools and so I might have to switch back to his puppy chow.  They're extremely small and go down really fast.

Ailbe likes to "talk" during class and the teacher has this old soda can with some pennies in it.  He shakes it and tells Ailbe "enough" and he sits down with a grunt.  I swear that he's talking back with that grunt or mumble under his breath.

We have homework doing the commands that the teacher taught us.. Oh, the other command for coming is now "touch" till he masters coming with your hand out with a treat and saying "touch" .. Ailbe can do it without treats and I sometimes do that for he won't rely on getting a snack every time he does a command.. He got loads of verbal praise.. The touch will lead them to the word "come" when called..

Hopefully we'll have some playtime in the group to help with socialization.  Ailbe is one of the youngest in the group and absorbs everything like a sponge.
